Das Hubble Weltraumteleskop das uns in den letzten Jahren mit faszinierenden Bildern unsrer Kosmischen Nachbarn beschenkt hat ist nun schon 18 Jahre im Weltraum. Am 24. April 1990 um 14.34 Uhr (MESZ) startete das Hubble Weltraumteleskop an Bord der US-Raumfähre Discovery in den Weltraum. Zum Anlass wurden 59 Bilder veröffentlicht, die uns wiedermal eindrucksvolle Bilder von weit entfernten Galaxien zeigen. Die Zukunft von Hubble ist auch gesichert, mit der Mission STS-125 wird das Teleskop wieder fit gemacht und soll bis 2013 weiterfunktionieren.

Der ist nämlich zum Rapper mutiert. Und nicht zu irgenteinen, sondern zu Snoop Dogg. Der spielt nämlich in einem Werbespot für vybemobile den deutschen Schlagersänger und trällert auch “…schön ist es auf der Welt zu sein, sagt die Biene zu dem Stachelschwein…”
Das sind in den 29 Jahren die Seagate dafür gebraucht hat 79 Exabyte an Speicherkapazität die man verkauft hat. Die 2. Millarde Festplatten will der Hersteller in den nächsten 5 Jahren verkaufen. Vergleicht man wo in den letzten 29 Jahren Festplatten drin waren (haupsächlich PC’s und Server) und wo heutzutage schon überall eine Festplatte drin ist (MP3 Player, Mobiltelefone, Videorekorder, Sat-Receiver, …) ist diese Vorstellung gewagt aber gar nicht so abwegig. Die erste Festplatte von Seagate (Modell: ST506) kam 1979 auf den Markt. Sie hatte die Wahnsinnige Speicherkapazität von 5 MByte, ein Gewicht von knapp 2,3 kg und einen Preis von etwa 1.500,- US-Dollar bzw. 300,- US-Dollar pro MByte.
Von dem freien Quake 3 basierenden Stand-Alone Shooter OpenArena wurde gestern nach 10 Monaten Entwicklungszeit die OpenArena 0.7.6 herausgebracht. Die Neuerungen sind:
- New player model : Assassin. This guy kills for greed.
- New player model : Space Marine. This guy serves his Corps. In SPACE.
- New player skin : Angelyss/Neko. Mew!!!!!! :3
- New player skin : Grism/Indigo. A homage of that other game.
- Ayumi/Neko, Angelyss/Sly have been atticed due to quality reasons.
- Text font (bigchars.tga) used by console and hud messages now doesn’t bleed anymore.
- Special characters added for text font (bigchars.tga) used by some mods. If you’ve ever encountered a “?” where it shouldn’t be in a mod, this should really fix it
- lots of maps and changed maps, at least 8 new significant maps to play! This includes the reworked oa_dm3 and oa_dm5.
- oa_ctf2 is more balanced, slightly retextured.
- Elimination and CTF elimination game types. No one respawns until the round is over.
- Double domination game type. Two teams must control two points on the map for 10 seconds to score.
- Last Man Standing game type. The name of the game is self explanatory.
- Instant Gib option, gives everyone only a railgun that does kills instantly.
- All Rockets option, makes everyone only have a rocket launcher.
- Alt-tab working.
- Unlagged tracehits option, provides a more responsive feel for railguns, machineguns and shotguns.
- Classic Grism aren’t teamskins anymore. This means the ‘white’ skin will not show up during team games. In addition, the skins can be used for FFA again.
- Completely in SDL.

Auf der Projekthomepage wurden auch 6 Screenshots veröffentlicht die das Look & Feel des Spiels vermitteln sollen.
Das Downloadpaket hat eine Größe von 269MiB und kann bei modDB, TuxFamily oder GamersHell herunter geladen werden.
Der von Sony groß angekündigte Second Live-Klon Playstation Home soll im Sommer einer breiterer Spielergemeinschaft vorgestellt werden, hat nun Kazuo Hirai, Präsident von Sony Computer Entertainment angekündigt. Im Herbst soll dann eine Open Beta herauskommen.

Tokyo, April 22, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that it will expand the Closed Beta testing for PLAYSTATION®Home in Summer 2008, inviting a further number of registrants from the PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3®) users. Following completion of the Expanded Closed Beta test, the PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service will commence in Fall 2008.
“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PLAYSTATION Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation® tradition.”
The PLAYSTATION Home Open Beta service that will become available in Fall 2008 will be built around providing new and fun community gaming experiences, such as connecting PlayStation games with Home and providing places and items from the games.
Details of the Closed Beta testing features, registration for the test and the opening of the service will be announced as they become available.
Playstation Home wurde vor einem Jahr für Herbst 2007 angekündigt und soll den damals mit Second Live aufkeimenden 3D-Welt-Hype auf die PS3 bringen.
